Jura

The Jura has a wonderful rural atmosphere with a tapestry of lakes, rivers, waterfalls, rich farmlands and forested hills interspersed with unspoilt towns and villages. Clairvaux-les-Lacs is a charming village, situated right on the edge of the Parc Naturel de Haut Jura, which has a wealth of beautiful lakes like Lac de Chalain. The river Ain bisects the region and eventually becomes the massive Lac de Voglans where there are all manner of water sports available. Exciting canoe trips can be booked from the nearby town of Pont-de-Poitte. Walking, hiking and horse riding enthusiasts will not be disappointed with outings of varying difficulty, including the ‘Grandes Traversées du Jura’ with 186 miles of trails. The region has a rich farming heritage and produces many varieties of outstanding wine and cheese. Geneva and the Swiss border are just an hour and a half away.
