This
region has attracted visitors for centuries and has some of
the most iconic resorts in the world – Nice, Cannes and
Monte Carlo to name a few. Craggy headlands protect
beautiful beaches and fabulous yachting marinas like St
Tropez. There are more traditional coastal resorts like the
pretty artist port of St Raphael and the Roman town of
Fréjus. Inland, beautiful old towns and villages hide away
in the fragrant Esterel hills, which are home to some
world-famous perfumeries near to Grasse. The Gorges du
Verdon (the Grand Canyon of Europe) and the beautiful Lake
St Cassien form a spectacular backdrop to the region.
Further east the Alpes-Maritimes form the border with Italy,
with incredible views over coastal towns like Menton. |
