Languedoc-Roussillon

The beautiful beaches of Languedoc-Roussillon stretch from the Camargue region in the east to the towering peaks of the Pyrenees in the west. This region was once part of the Kingdom of Catalonia, and the Catalan culture is still maintained today in its language and mouth-watering cuisine. The dramatic Roussillon coastline near the Pyrenees is backed by a more gentle coastal plain of vineyards and quiet towns. Further east into Languedoc, there is a mix of modern resorts, and beautiful old towns and ports like Sète and Agde, where the Canal du Midi reaches the Mediterranean Sea. Inland is the incredible walled city of Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
